Music, space and time

I started with a stereo system. One place, many people to use it, the need to find the slot so I could listen to my music choice.

Then, music became portable when Walkman appeared on the scene. Still, you needed time, to record the tape, to write down what was inside the box. Also you would have to dedicate a few minutes to decide what to carry with you and listen to during the day according to your mood or to how you would you like to alter it thanks to the music… What were your options? 12 songs per tape? Focus was on the memories you wanted to bring back once you listen again to the tape. Focus was on your friend’s taste, when you were spending hours before giving the tape away.

Portable CD and iPod followed. Less space, more songs.

Nowadays, music is easily accessible. Whenever you want, wherever you are. Is it easier the choice now? Or more complicated? There are plenty of possibilities, to create short-lived playlists, play what others created, to leave the choice to an app? But still, if you want it personal, it’s up to you to build virtual tapes, you can retrieve a remembrance, one hit playlists, … When was the last time you created a playlist (virtual tape) as a present for someone else?

Sandcastles

As kids, we would spend the whole day at the beach, building a sandcastle, so high that it would reach the sky. One step after another. But, it could take only a wave, or just one absent-minded person to make the structure collapse. So then, you would have to rebuild it from the remaining ruins or start over the whole structure.

It can be exhausting as kids, and as grown-ups when you try to progress and the sand slips beneath your feet. But, lets start over, once again. That’s what resilience is about.

Survival mode

There are times when we have no time, low energy and tons of things to do. That’s when our body, turns into a save energy mode. We feel tired, need some sleep and sometimes, a bit of fever.

And knowing that, before it happens, we need to be smart and split our energy between what is important, urgent and all the rest.

Save your time and energy for what is needed. Do things right, execute what is not too important on your own performance limits. Energy, time and speed will be at 100% soon, don’t waste it in the meantime.

Wolf, sheep and cabbage game

There is this mind game. There is a farmer that visits a market and buys a wolf, a sheep and a cabbage. On his way back home, he needs to cross a river. On the boat he can only carry himself one of them to the far bank of the river, so here is the thing. How will he make it? f left unattended together, the wolf would eat the goat, or the goat would eat the cabbage.

Sometimes we feel like facing unsolvable issues. But is nothing else than a matter of time and patience. We have tones of problems, tricky decisions, … we lack of patience and time to dedicate to them.

Well, in the end some things can only turn into a mind game. Find the time, let patience help you.
